The Beginning- Part II

Struggling, I was trying to figure out what to get my parents for Christmas. As I sat in my living room reading a book, I looked up and saw it. While in college, I had taken of my parents. The photo that captured my parents’ feelings for each other. A visual representation of love printed on black and white paper. And it was the photo session that started it all (The Beginning-Part I).

When I look at their photograph, I am transported to that moment. I secretly wanted what they had, but was scared to admit. Because I thought I’d never find it. Completely unobtainable. They had the kind of relationship where you put the other person first. The kind of relationship that doesn’t keep score. These are the secrets to a wonderful marriage. And when you find another person who is willing to do that too, it’s magic!

During Christmas, I decided to take that visual representation of love and re-wrap it with a card. Slowly, my mom began to smile and then the smile softened as she began to tear up, overwhelmed by emotions and I could tell this meant the world to her. Finally, I had found something that they simply couldn’t go out and buy for themselves and that would last forever.

I am so excited for our updated session this weekend! This photo session has been a wonderful excuse to spend time with my mom. We went for pedicures and talked about the details. We’ve gone shopping for a new dress. I even have a few surprises that I cannot wait to share!

PS Here is a little insight on my parents’ marriage

My dad is the kind of guy who writes love notes to my mom on (all) the mirror(s) in lipstick. My mom is the kind of person who adores my dad and doesn’t care that she will eventually clean lipstick off of mirrors. She is the kind of woman who would see him off every morning, giving him a kiss and waving goodbye as he drove away. They have the kind of relationship that is rare. I knew growing up I was lucky to witness it.
