Newborn Family Photographs

One of my favorite places to take newborn family photographs is in your home. Firstly, your home is unique to you and reflects your style. Secondly, if you need to change clothes, you have access to your closet. Thirdly, it is convenient.  And no need to worry about packing a diaper bag or which freeways are closed. This is why John and Kristi’s home was perfect for their newborn family photographs.

Breakfast

It’s not every day someone offers to cook me breakfast. But it happened at our design and order session. John studied at the Arizona Culinary Institute. He is an incredible chef and makes the most delicious avocado toast. Talk about a gourmet prepared meal! This recipe had fresh avocados, ricotta cheese, red pepper flakes, and a drizzle of honey. Top it off with eggs cooking in pesto and olive oil. Also, (I almost forgot to mention) John loves making specialty coffee drinks. Move over Starbucks, John’s iced lattes were fantastic. Although you already know this, you are one lucky lady, Kristi!

Style

The word I would use to describe Kristi’s style is Transitional Glam. Their home is very welcoming, with touches of sparkle. Kristi has terrific taste, and you can see it throughout their home. Especially in the carpet, she selected. Ever wondered if you can locate a particular pattern? Take it from Kristi, and never give up. After spending time with different carpet companies, they told her she would never find her dream carpet. But she did exactly that! So now it is the backdrop to their staircase and upstairs.

Nursery

That was also the case with Lily’s nursery. Bringing the same level of care and detail to her sweet baby girl’s room, Kristi poured into the design. From the romantic upholstered crib to the tulle canopy, the nursery is a mix of glam and whimsy. With its velvet pink blush swivel chair and custom blanket with Lily’s name, the nursery is full of little touches that make it a place you would want to hang out. But, perhaps the most adorable item in the room, besides Lily, is the stuffed animals. Honestly, I am not sure if they are llamas or alpacas, but all I know is that they are cute!

How precious was it that I was able to witness and capture the first time Little John held his sister? As you can imagine, like most first-timers, he was both excited and slightly nervous. But Little John did a fantastic job. First, he stared with Lily on a pillow. Next, Little John was quickly able to hold her without any assistance. If someone asked to describe Little John, one would say he is easy-going, kind, and intelligent. Also, he has the most adorable freckles and is quite tall for his age.

John and Kristi’s blog would not be complete without sharing about their 2-year old son, James. Although James passed away, he is very much honored and remembered. Perhaps the most beautiful moments are the ones where they share stories about him. When listening to Kristi and John speak of James, you immediately know how much they love and miss him.

Thank you!

Kristi and John, thank you for having me photograph your newborn session. Knowing how much these moments mean to you, it’s an honor to be at your service. Little John, James, and Lily- your parents love you so much. My favorite quote describes your parents perfectly! “The greatest gift a parent can give their child is a loving example of how wonderful marriage can be.” John and Kristi, you make an incredible team.
