You have beautiful memories that you want to display. But how to create a gallery wall? I will walk you through how to choose your picture frames and an organic layout for your gallery wall.
Gallery Wall Frames
My favorite ready-made frames come from Pottery Barn. You can find my go-to gallery frames here. The reason I love these frames is that they are clean & modern, yet timeless & classic. Their gallery wall frames are well-made for the price. The picture frames have held up to my three kids (and husband), knocking them down to the ground. The frames come in five or six different finishes and go with most home decor.
*Fair warning: sometimes Pottery Barn retires their frame finishes. If you are thinking of adding to your collection, keep an eye out for these changes. Nobody wants to invest in a set only to have to start over if the item is discontinued. Now depending on how big you make your gallery wall, you might need to grow your collection a few frames at a time. A few of my Pottery Barn frames I had for over ten years. And these frames are very affordable when compared with custom framing.

How to create a gallery wall
When building an organic gallery wall, start with a center picture frame. It’s okay if it does not end up being directly in the center. Using directional lines, you will create a flow for your gallery wall. I like to use 1 or 2-inch spacing between my frames.
Once you have your center frame, pick one direction, either vertical or horizontal, to expand your gallery wall.
From there, you will build your gallery wall out. Keep an imaginary line where all frames fall above or below the spacing of that line. See below
Next, you will create another imaginary line for your picture frames in the opposite direction. You are going to create a non-stop line from all four corners of your frames.
Once you have established your circular flow, continue to add your picture frames. Be sure to keep an eye on the height of your gallery wall. Adjust the placement of photo frames until you have a shape that you like.
Before hanging the Pottery Barn frames on my wall, I put them on the floor and moved them around until I found this shape.
Every day I get to walk past my favorite memories. I cannot tell you how much joy getting to see these moments add to my day. <3
