Paradise Valley Family Portrait Session

It was September when we spoke. Megan and Lee knew that Jake would be visiting for several weeks while attending his classes virtually. It was important to them that Jake be here for the family photographs. They had moved from Pittsburg, and it could not have been easy being far away from loved ones. When Megan was describing their Camelback Mountain’s views, she knew it would make the perfect location for their Paradise Valley family portrait session.

Before every portrait session, I like to meet with my clients. Not only does this help to get to know them, but it helps me to craft a session that is unique to them. We started our portrait session in Gavin’s room, a special place for Megan. A place where they play pretend, read books, and explore. Once outside, we were in the beauty of the desert. Megan and Lee’s property is stunning, with beautiful views of Camelback. (And there were so many wonderful vignettes to use as our backdrop.)

I love it when couples are up for portraits of just mom and dad. The way that these two look at each other and treat one another is heart-warming. Lee has a way of making Megan smile and laugh. The kind of smile that causes your cheeks to hurt! Megan is so happy when she is with Lee. Honestly, it’s that first-started-dating-kind-of-happiness. When Megan described Lee at our pre-session consultation as someone who enjoys having fun and loves to laugh, I could see it immediately.

There are a few things I will remember most about working with this family;

  • Alexander is a happy baby who loves their puppies, sometimes feeding them from his high chair. Gavin has a beautiful, curious spirit and wants to learn everything about everything.
  • Lee knows exactly what makes Gavin giggle and smile, everyone really. Megan and Alexander both have easy-going personalities.
  • Megan is incredibly generous and thoughtful. During our design and ordering session, she wanted to select prints she thought everyone would love.
  • And Jake is a pro! He can turn on his smile instantly and follows directions perfectly.

Thank you, Megan and Lee, for allowing me into this special time in your lives. Your views of Camelback Mountain are stunning and created the perfect sentimental backdrop for your family portrait session. I am so happy that you decided to leave those cold Pittsburg winters and join us in sunny Arizona. You have given your friends and family the perfect excuse to come and visit. (Local tip: visit October through April, skip the summer!) A special thank you to Tav, Megan’s niece, who was incredibly helpful with the puppies and little ones during our photography session. It has been an honor working with you both, and I cannot wait for our next portrait session!
