Her text message said it all. “Chance Michael is here!!! Born at 9:26 am, 8 lbs 1.5 oz. We are so in love!!! It’s so surreal…” It was so exciting receiving this text. Their little boy was finally here. Which meant I would be traveling for our hospital newborn photography session at Honor Health. It felt like yesterday, we were just photographing Colton and Debbie’s North Scottsdale maternity session.
As I was arriving at Honor Health Hospital, I was mentally completing my checklist. (Something I already did several times before I even left my house.)
Photography Check List
-Valet the car, finding a parking space is nearly impossible during the day (check)
-Grab gear bag with my camera, fresh batteries, and newly formatted memory cards. (check)
-Try containing excitement (umm-not sure I can contain my excitement!)
Celebrating new life is incredibly special. Your baby will never be this new or little ever again. When I finally entered Debbie and Colton’s hospital room it was so calm and peaceful. Debbie seemed at ease in her role as a mom. And Colton was grinning, beaming with pride.
When people ask what it is like to photograph a baby in the first few days of life it can be difficult to explain. Imagine getting to do something that you love while sharing in a family’s moments of pure joy. Sure, they probably have not slept much. But in the weeks and months that follow, the blur of the day can be remembered forever. Slowing down time and reliving exactly how you were feeling and the small moments that made the day so
Debbie and Colton, thank you for allowing me to share in your joy. For letting me capture the little moments of welcoming this precious little miracle into your lives. These moments will live on forever. Chance Micheal, you are one lucky boy! Because you will grow up in a home filled with love and have parents that adore you.
PS You are Cali are going to be best friends!
