To my mom, on her birthday! Happy birthday, Mom!! Over the years, we have shared many wonderful memories. But, one of my favorite birthday traditions growing up was breakfast at Gooseberries. Our neighborhood eatery, part tea house, part gift shop, English garden meets shabby chic. Walking through the door could get anyone to go off their diet. Freshly baking pastries loomed in the air. Seldom did we order something different. But the question became, were we going to split it?
We always ordered the over-sized cinnamon roll. So large they could barely fit on an 8-inch plate. Prepared strait from the oven, steam would slowly rise as they brought the sweet roll to the table. With glazed icing drizzling down the sides; working its way into every nook and cranny, so rich the butter would separate from the sugar. Pure joy on a plate and the first bite was always the best! The kind of deliciousness that caused us to stop talking, pause to enjoy.
First of all, Mom, thank you for our birthday traditions. Second, thank you for letting me be so independent. Third, for being there when I needed you the most. And lastly, for all of those years, you hauled me off to dance so that I could live out my dream. And for supporting my new dreams, you’re one of my biggest encourages!
Mom, you were and are an amazing role model. Someone who taught me what it meant to be a good friend. Most importantly, you showed me what it meant to be happy, have a great life, and the importance of family. I am so thankful that I have you as my friend and that I can tell you anything. In case I don’t say this enough… I love you so much!!
