To my baby on his 4th birthday

To my baby on his 4th birthday. I don’t know where to begin. You changed our lives in ways we never expected. You have been a wonder to watch grow and explore the world around you. Your language skills have blossomed this past year and I love hearing all the stories you want to share. We know one thing is for sure, we love you and are so happy you completed our family!

This year has been full of growth and challenges. We should have known better when you started climbing up the stairs at 8 months you were going to be trouble. Or when I would find you playing with the master bathroom faucet and wonder how you got up on the counter. I have pulled you down from the top of the pantry more times than I can count. But we will encourage your fearlessness and try to direct that energy with positive ventures.

People asked me during your first year if you were different than raising your older sisters. Honestly, you weren’t. But the moment you could walk, you quickly could run. And you never really stopped after that. You have been the best diet manager and have kept me fit, trim, and on my toes. You have challenged my parenting skills and tested to see whose will is stronger. Every day I grow because of you.

This year was the start of preschool. And the beginning of me letting go of my last baby. I would be lying if I said it was easy, but it has been necessary for your growth and development. Our ultimate goal is to foster your gifts and talents and encourage you to be the best version of yourself. Some days I feel like I am failing you, but I think most good parents do.

Happy birthday Zachary! We love you and cannot wait to see what the next year brings for you.
